Retro Watches - Then and Now

Many years ago a wrist watch was good for one main purpose – to keep the owner informed of the time. Well, style and fashion was still a factor, but most people just found it fascinating to have the time on them. If a passerby should stop you and ask “Excuse me Sir/ Madam, would you happen to have the time” you could simply flick your wrist and reply “Certainly my good fellow/ Lady, the time is ...” or alternatively you could tell them to shove off and shoo them away with your morning paper. Those were the times when Retro Watches were once considered the latest and coolest gizmo.

We’ve talked about various designs of the 20th century – Retro styled watches with their vintage leathery straps and funky bold designs. But fashion constantly changes and soon enough gave birth to a new wave of watches in the industry. The old styled retro wrist watch has most certainly evolved over the years

How Technology Modified Retro-Styled Watches
Compared to earlier days, technology has vastly changed with retro watches and even retro sweets has changed. Amazing new features such as having a GPS and other features have greatly made wrist watches sophisticated. Pretty much anything, it seems, can be incorporated into a watch these days. However, there has also been unsurpassable updates with today’s recent smart phones. Some people may not even feel the need for a high tech (or any other) wrist watch, whilst sporting the latest iphone for example. Today’s young ones can forget about bringing a watch as they can have the time, the weather, and thousands of other applications at their fingertips all in one device.

Could the Use for Retro Watches Lie Only in Fashion Nowadays?
Maybe so! After all, wrist watches don’t seem to be a necessity anymore but rather an accessory. We see the time everywhere now. We see it when we’re at the mall, in the substation, on our phones and laptops – so why strap another one on our wrists?

For those who were around to see the retro watches of yesterday there may just be that familiar factor – they plainly and simply like the feel of a watch on their wrist. Many people today like to have a bit of Bling on them also. A lot of Retro Watches designs offer bright colours, bold features and a general Bling factor that we have grown to expect from our funky fashion accessories. So the question is this: Is there a chance we will grow tired of all these technological gizmos and go back to the good old fashioned retro designed watches? Only time can tell!
